On the eve of another academic year

Harking back to a theme visited before by this blog, Eric Schmidt, chairman of google gave the MacTaggart lecture in Edinburgh last week. Widely reported, i'm lifting the link from the Guardian which we subscribe to in the library, it should give encouragement to all aspiring engineers. For the good of the economy, industry, innovation and progress the UK (though i would take the message to be universal) needs to provide more encouragement and opportunity for people to study science and engineering. The world needs more, Obama wants 10000 more in America. Alan Sugar can say what he likes about engineers being no good at business, but its the engineers not the artists, who are chiefly responsible for many of the media related inventions that drive the economy. Where are all the engineers when we need them seems to be his message. So "Let luvvie embrace boffin in the digital future"
